This is an old revision of the document!
Part of your workflow is to make sure that there are no tracks joined together. For example, the first track might have the Title Page
, Dedication
, and Prologue
in the single track. In this case you would need to split the track.
This section shows you how to split a track in Converter Plus.
Some common book sections that can be combined in the first audio track are:
The end track usually will only have the Sign Off section joined to the last chapter. Most audiobooks have a Sign Off section, and if it is joined you will need to split it.
To split a track first do the following:
Play Order
section on the Set Play Order
pageEdit
buttonEdit
Track page.Split Audio
. This is the third heading on the page.Scan
button.Split Track
page. It will automatically be set at the longest pause and will suggest you split the track at this pause.Play
to listen.Update and Split
section, which is the fourth heading on the page.Title
and select the Split
button.Play Order
section that is titled Chapter 1
.
If you do not like the suggested split, then use the functions in the Search by Silence
and Player
sections to manually find the split point.
The scan did not find a recommended split position. You will need to either change the project settings, or manually find the split position. See the Change Project Settings wiki page for more information.
This is the second heading on the page. In this section you can navigate through the suggesting split points by length of silence. If you want to navigate through the suggested split points in chronological order, go down to the Player section below.
Use the Previous
and Next
buttons to move through the silences. If you find a split point you like, navigate down to the Update and Split Track section to apply the split point.
This is the third heading on the page. At the top of the player is a button labelled Play
, and during playback the label changes to Pause
. Use this button to play and pause the suggested split point, as well as to play and pause as you are manually searching for a split point.
Below this is the volume slider and speed settings. Adjust as needed.
Below these functions you will find the slider. This can be used with your mouse or with your keyboard to navigate forward and backwards through the track. There is a time counter above the slider to show where you are as you navigate through the track, as well as a timestamp beside the slider to indicate the total length of the track
Below the slider is a series of buttons that allow you to move by different time intervals including: 0.2 seconds, 1 second, and 5 seconds. These buttons can help you make sure you are at the correct point for a proper split. Try to aim for 3 seconds of silence at the end of a track. Sometimes this is not possible, so do the best you can.
Below these buttons are two buttons labelled Previous Split
and Next Split
. These buttons help you move through the split points in chronological order.
Once you have located a split point, move to the next section to Update and Cut the track.
This is the fourth heading on the page. Here you will find a button labelled Update
this will update the timestamp in the textbox beside the button to your selected split point. You can use the Preview
button to listen to the split point before naming and cutting the track.
If you are unhappy with the split point, move back to the Player to find a better split point. Often just moving back by a couple of seconds is all you need.
If you are happy with the updated split point, enter the name of the new track in the Title
textbox and select the Split
button.
When a track starts or ends with a small piece of audio from the neighbouring track, it is necessary to split this piece and join it to the correct track. Learn more on Split and Join wiki page.
Title
and above the Split
button, you will find the phrase: automatically correct capitalization and spacing
followed by a checkbox. To turn off the automatic capitalization simply unselect this checkbox. This only turns it off for this page and the current title you have open. You will have to turn it off again every time you return to this page.
In this section you adjust the preview setting for the player, and the navigation settings. The preview setting allow you to automatically hear a short clip of the audio as you navigate backwards and forwards. The navigation settings is to adjust the silence length that is selected as you navigate backwards and forwards in the player.
The first two options control the preview function for the player. You can do one of the following:
Enable Preview
: When this is selected, a short preview of the track will automatically play when you navigate with the forward and back button options in the player. When this is unselected the player will play straight through the track and you will need to use the Play/Pause buttons.Preview Length
: dropdown menu to set the length of the preview. Settings include: 1 second, 2 second, 3 seconds, or 5 seconds
Turning on Enable Preview
and adjusting the Preview Length
can help you find more precise splits.
Below the Preview Setting is an area labelled Adjust Silence Length
. Here you can change the silence length that the Player navigates through with the Previous Split
and Next Split
buttons. In this section there are two radio buttons you can choose from:
Select Short
to move by phrases. Select Long
to move by longer silences. Use Previous Split
and Next Split
to navigate forwards and backwards. Default for Player is Long
.
